30 Hour Famine 2010

FAMINE UPDATE

A huge THANK YOU to the 75 students who fasted and the countless adults who helped with this year's 30 Hour Famine on Feb. 26th-27th.  With only a few pledge packets still out, you've raised OVER $17,000!  We'll report our group's total as soon as the last penny is counted.  Don't forget...the funds you raised this year will be multiplied 10 times through U.S. Government food grants so hundreds of lives will be blessed through your efforts.

SO WHO IS WORLD VISION?

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.  Motivated by faith in Jesus Christ, World Vision serves alongside the poor and oppressed as a demonstration of God's unconditional love for all people.  World Vision serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.

AND WHAT IS THE 30 HOUR FAMINE?

The 30 Hour Famine is an international youth movement to fight hunger. It will bring our group closer together and to God, feed hungry children, and change our world forever. Students fast for thirty hours and raise funds to help feed and care for children around the world. By sacrificing and serving others, we learn to think outside ourselves and see the world as Christ sees it.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

First, mark your calendar for the 2011 Famine dates -- February 25th-26th.  Then, plan to join us on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26th (6:30-7:30pm) in the Youth Room for 30 DAYS TO 30 HOURSour annual kick-off event.  Here you'll receive info on the event as well as great advice from 30HF veterans on the HOW TO of fundraising.  We'll set our Group Fundraising Goal, and you'll be encouraged to set your own personal goal, as well.  First time doing the Famine and not sure what to expect?  Check out this info sheet for first-timers and if you still have questions, feel free to contact Marlene Passarelli (mpassarelli@lumcvb.org).

Second, turn in your PERMISSION FORM (signed by a parent, of course) to register for the event (deadline to register is Feb. 16th).  Once you've turned in your form, you'll receive your own personal pledge packet containing lots of info on the Famine and suggestions on how to prepare.  If you'd like to order a 30 Hour Famine T-shirt, bring $10 cash (or check made payable to:  LUMC Youth) to turn in with your permission form.  The t-shirt is an optional item, but February 2nd is the deadline to order.

Finally, watch this page for updates and sign-up sheets as we prepare for the BEST 30 Hour Famine yet!
