Frequently Asked Questions About Electronic Giving

Q.  Why use E-Giving?

A.  E-Giving is convenient for you!  No checks to write and no envelopes to prepare.  Make a one-time donation, donate on your normal schedule using any computer, or have your tithes and offerings withdrawn automatically from your checking or savings account on a regular basis.  You'll be able to stay up-to-date with your pledge even when you are out of town.  The church also benefits with consistency of donations and a reduced volume of cash and checks that must be processed weekly in the church office.

Q.  How does E-Giving work?

A.  Your contributions are transferred automatically from your checking or savings account directly to the church's bank account by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), through the Automated Clearning House (ACH) network - the same network already used by many families to make mortgage and utility payments or to receive payroll earnings and Social Security income.

Q.  When will my contribution be debited from my account?

A.  A debit to your bank account will occur on the date you specify when you set up your transaction.  If you choose to set up an automatic donation, the debit will occur on the first banking day of each scheduled period (weekly, monthly, etc.) beginning with the start date you specify.

Q.  Is E-Giving giving safe?

A.  We have carefully chosen Vanco Services, an established and highly-regarded company that processes contributions for more than 17,000 churches and nonprofit organizations.  Vanco operates with PCI Level 1 Compliance, the highest level of security standard.

Q.  How much does E-Giving cost?

A.  It costs you nothing to enjoy the convenience of E-Giving, and it costs the church very little (pennies per transaction).

Q.  What if I want to change or cancel automatic E-Giving?

A.  You can change or cancel your authorization at any time by logging in to your E-Giving account or notifying the church office.

Q.  How can I sign up for E-Giving?

A. Click HERE to get started right now!  The first time you visit our E-Giving webpage, you will be able to set up your E-Giving account.

Q.  Can the church set up automatic E-Giving for me?

A.  Yes!  Simply complete an authorization form which can be found in the church office and give it to the Finance Secretary (Holly Winebrenner).

Q.  I am/have been a regular donor to LUMC.  Will the record-keeping for E-Giving coordinate with donations I have already made or may occasionally make via checks or cash?

A.  Yes.  All contributions received through electronic giving will be included, along with any other contributions you may make, on the year-end statement of giving that you receive from the church.  E-giving contributions are recorded under your unique pledge envelope number.

Q.  I am not a regular donor to LUMC.  How will my donation be noted for income tax purposes?

A.  Those who donate on a one-time or special offering basis, i.e. supporting an individual for a mission trip or contributing funds for VBS, will be assigned a special donor number for income tax purposes - and all online donors will receive a receipt (immediately generated and also by email, if an address is provided) acknowledging the tax-deductible donation.
