HELPING HANDS MISSION WEEK is an annual summertime event especially for children. A variety of service activities are scheduled throughout the week at the church and off-site, with both morning and evening sessions. You can sign up for one or all of them!  

Our 2018 Helping Hands Week takes place August 6th-10th. It is open to all children through rising 6th graders and their parents.  WATCH FOR SIGN-UPS TO COME THIS SUMMER!

In 2016 our children, youth and adults:

  • Cleaned the church playground, grounds, nursery, pews, walls, and more!
  • Made “Thank You” packets for our VB police officers.
  • Made cookies for our neighborhood firefighters.
  • Sorted cans at the FoodBank.
  • Sorted, hung, and tagged clothing at the JCOC Thrift Shop.
  • Made meals for our church meal ministry.
  • Raised $65 for the VBSPCA by washing dogs and also made and delivered treats and toys for the dogs and cats there.
  • Sung VBS songs and made crafts with residents of King’s Grant House.
  • Played bingo with the senior citizens at M. E. Cox Center.
  • Weeded and harvested green beans and tomatoes at Nimmo Community Garden.
  • Purchased food for our church food pantry as part of a family scavenger hunt.
  • Cut patterns out of old jeans to be made into shoes by the Sole Hope project for needy children in Uganda.


HELPING HANDS:  Virginia Conference

The Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church is sponsoring an overnight Helping Hands mission event in the Richmond area for current 3rd, 4th and 5th graders August 2nd-3rd. Registration will begin on April 1st. Watch for more info to come!
